Tired of Google? Try These Search Engine Alternatives

Not finding what you want on Google, Bing, or Yahoo?

Here are some lesser known search engines worth checking out.

DuckDuckGo

Our favorite, DuckDuckGo doesn’t track you or share your search habits. Are you noticing ads constantly following you around? That’s partly because Google tracks your searches and hides trackers on millions of websites. The DuckDuckGo browser doesn’t. Its extension and mobile app blocks trackers across the web, keeping your browsing history more private. Since they don’t collect your information, search ads are based on results, not on you and your habits.

Startpage

Another no-tracking search engine that promises not to sell your search history or use 3rd party ad trackers or cookies. Search and browse anonymously with price tracker blocking, your IP address hidden, and unprofiled search results.

I used to use startpage years ago, but got out of the habit after a upgrading our local systems. I’ll have to add it back into the toolbox.

dogpile

Making a comeback recently, dogpile was popular before Google took over the lion’s share of the market. Dogpile gathers results from other search engines, decides which are most relevant, eliminates the duplicates and delivers them to you.

WHAT IF I’M SEARCHING FOR SOMEONE?

truepeoplesearch.com lets you find people by name, phone number, or address. Many people search sites give little information unless you pay for it. This one has free results that are more detailed than what I’ve found on other sites.

WHAT IF I’M SEARCHING FOR AN IMAGE?

Google has a huge image database but you can also try picsearch, which has over 3 billion images.

Pixabay not only has free and royalty-free photos and illustrations, but music and videos, too.

HOW CAN I SEARCH SOCIAL MEDIA?

Social Searcher lets you search for content in social networks in real-time. Users can search without logging in for publicly posted information on Twitter, Google+, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Tumblr, Reddit, Flickr, Dailymotion, and Vimeo. Free users can also save their searches and set up email alerts.
