Lost Domain Name

Q. We registered a domain name for our business a few years ago, but the person responsible for it is no longer with the company. We don’t know where to turn. Is there a way to find it?

A. Yes. If it is (or was) a viable domain name, it can be recovered. Gather all the info you do have: full name – did it ever work? – did you have mail with it? – anything you can remember will speed up the process.

A domain search can be made at https://whois.icann.org/. If it’s still registered, you’ll find the name of the registrant, registrar and expiration date. You may need to contact the registrar directly by faxing a photo ID and signature claiming ownership of that domain.
