Is it Legal to Download Software from the Internet Archive?

Leo Laporte, the Tech Guy, was asked if it’s alright to download software from the internet library, Archive.org.

The founder of the Internet Archive maintains it’s a library, and libraries don’t have to worry about copyright. At any rate, the software industry is ignoring this for now, and it’s a great historical snapshot of the web. You can use the Wayback Machine to browse web sites that aren’t in existence anymore, and that includes music, audio, and video.
